Ancelotti: Yossi's an intelligent player

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti believes new signing Yossi Benayoun is a better and more intelligent player than Joe Cole. The Blues manager allowed Cole to leave Stamford Bridge when his contract expired at the end of last season and the England international eventually opted to join Liverpool. Earlier in the summer Israeli midfielder Benayou had moved in the opposite direction, with Chelsea paying £6million to secure his services.

Former AC Milan coach Ancelotti is pleased with his summer dealings and believes Benayoun represents value for money, saying: "Joe Cole is quicker than Benayoun but Yossi is better tactically. He understands what I tell him. "Yossi is a very intelligent player. He knows everything about the game.

"Cole and Benayoun are different players and everyone has their own opinion, but we are happy to have Yossi here at Chelsea." Now you can buy Chelsea Tickets for Premier League 2010-2011. Alex out of Premier League opener

Chelsea defender Alex will miss the start of the Premier League season after picking up a thigh strain in training. Alex is out for a month and will miss Friday's friendly trip to Ajax along with new signing Yossi Benayoun, who has a groin problem. "There are no more coming that didn't play against Crystal Palace, so Yossi Benayoun is out and Alex has a problem in his thigh but with the other players it is the same squad," said Carlo Ancelotti on Chelsea's website. It is the second such blow in successive days for the Blues, who yesterday saw goalkeeper Petr Cech ruled out for a month with a torn calf. Tomorrow's game will therefore give back-up keepers Hilario and Ross Turnbull the chance to stake a claim to begin the season in the first team. "I think that against Ajax we will play 45 minutes each for Turnbull and Hilario, and I think Turnbull will start the game," Ancelotti said.

Chelsea - Drogba not for sale

Chelsea have warned Europe's top clubs Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba is not for sale.

Agent Thierno Seydi suggested in a radio interview Drogba could leave Stamford Bridge before the transfer deadline and said there had already been dialogue with Manchester City. But while City insisted there was "no foundation" to Seydi's remarks, Chelsea went further by declaring Drogba untouchable.

A spokesman for Chelsea told Press Association Sport: "It is all irrelevant, Didier Drogba is not for sale."

Seydi, who claims to act for Drogba, is noted for hyping up the 32-year-old's future during transfer windows.

But the Blues are in no way inclined to sell Drogba who enjoyed a superb season under Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, scoring 29 Barclays Premier League goals as Chelsea secured an historic league and FA Cup double.

The Elephants international has scored 84 goals for the club since his ¦pound;24million signing from Marseille six years ago.

City, who have spent around ¦pound;60million on Jerome Boateng, David Silva and Yaya Toure this summer, were equally dismissive of Seydi's remarks.

A City spokesperson said: "There has been absolutely no contact. We have not spoken to him and there is no foundation to this."
