Essien will have a scan on Wednesday to determine the extent of the problem but will definitely miss this weekend's Premier League encounter with Everton.

"Michael has a problem with his leg," said Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti after the 2-2 draw. "We will look at him over the next few days and check on him.
